Overview

Utah only. The Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services issues the EMS Instructor endorsement after its own one-day Initial EMS Instructor Course; Code Blue prepares candidates for it and does not issue the endorsement. This workshop covers adult education methods from the National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors the Bureau adopts, lesson planning, running skills stations at the 1:6 ratio, student evaluation and the Course Coordinator Manual standards, and pairs you with a mentor to plan, teach and document the 15 teaching hours the Bureau asks for. The Bureau course and its $150 endorsement fee are separate and paid to the state.

What You Will Learn

  • Apply adult learning principles to EMS lectures, labs and scenarios
  • Write a lesson plan with measurable objectives
  • Run a skills station and give useful feedback at the 1:6 ratio
  • Evaluate students across cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains
  • Document the teaching hours and letters the Bureau application needs
